Lula da Silva se une a la campaña "1billionhungry"
26 de agosto de 2010, Brasilia, Brasil - El Presidente de Brasil, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, se ha unido a una campaña mundial contra el hambre organizada por la FAO, firmando su nombre en la petición internacional "1billionhungry" de la FAO, y soplando el silbato amarillo símbolo de la campaña.
El silbatazo tuvo lugar durante una ceremonia llevada a cabo en Brasilia. Casi medio millón de personas alrededor del mundo ya han firmado la petición "1billionhungry", que exhorta a los líderes mundiales a hacer de la erradicación del hambre su máxima prioridad. La campaña invita a sus adherentes a "soplar el silbato" contra el hambre.

Un millón de firmas
La meta de FAO es obtener un millón de firmas antes del final de noviembre y presentarlas a los 192 Estados Miembros que estarán presentes en el Consejo de la FAO. Actualmente, cerca de mil millones de personas sufren hambre crónica.
"El hambre causa dolor y mata. Y no podemos quedarnos indiferentes frente a tal sufrimiento", dijo el Representante de la FAO en Brasil, Hélder Muteia, antes de invitar al presidente Lula a soplar el silbato contra el hambre.
La ceremonia de anoche coincidió con otra importante iniciativa contra el hambre- el lanzamiento de la nueva Política Nacional de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional de Brasil, que tuvo lugar durante una reunión del Consejo Nacional de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (CONSEA).
Brasil- compromiso en la lucha contra el hambre
Gracias a reformas recientes, el derecho a la alimentación es hoy uno de los derechos sociales garantizados por la Constitución brasileña. Lo respalda la Ley de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional de Brasil. Otras leyes requieren que el 30 % de los productos que abastecen la merienda escolar deben ser comprados de agricultores familiares.
Muteia alabó la estrategia Hambre Cero de Brasil, y los decididos esfuerzos para promover la inclusión social, e hizo un llamado a que otros países hagan lo mismo.

El Proyecto "1billionhungry" es una masiva campaña de comunicación que busca reunir apoyo internacional para ponerle fin al hambre en el mundo. Otras celebridades que han firmado la petición incluyen al actor Jeremy Irons, el músico Chucho Valdés y el atleta Carl Lewis.

26 August 2010, Brasilia - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has joined a global anti-hunger campaign organized by FAO, signing his name to FAO's "1billionhungry" international petition and blowing the campaign's yellow "whistle against hunger".
The whistle-blowing took place at a ceremony held in Brasilia. Nearly half a million people worldwide have so far signed FAO's "1billionhungry" petition calling on world leaders to make the eradication of hunger their top priority. Supporters of the campaign are invited to"blow the whistle" on hunger.

One million signatures
FAO' goal is to obtain one million signatures by the end of November and present them to the 192 Member States due to attend FAO's Governing Council then. Currently, about one billion people in the world suffer chronic hunger.
"Hunger hurts and kills. And we can't be indifferent in the face of such suffering," said FAO Representative in Brazil Hélder Muteia at the ceremony, before inviting Lula da Silva to whistle.
Last night's ceremony coincided with another significant anti-hunger initiative -- the launch of Brazil's new National Policy on Food and Nutritional Security, which took place during a meeting of the Brazilian Food and Nutritional Security Council (CONSEA).
Brazil -- commitment against hunger
Under recent reforms, the right to food is now one of the social rights guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution. It is upheld by Brazil's Food and Nutritional Security Law. Separate legislation requires that 30 % of the food products used in school meals must be bought from family farmers.
Muteia expressed warm praise for Brazil's ongoing national Zero Hunger strategy and the country's determined effort to promote social inclusion, and called on other countries to do the same.
1billionhungy Project
The "1billionhungry" project is a major communication campaign intended to rally global support for an end to hunger in the world. Other celebrities who have signed the petition include actor Jeremy Irons, musician Chucho Valdés and athlete Carl Lewis.
